平遙古城位于山西省中部平遙縣內(nèi)，始建于西周宣王時期（公元前827年～公元前782年）。平遙古城是中國漢民族城市在明清時期的杰出范例，在中國歷史的發(fā)展中，為人們展示了一幅非同尋常的漢族文化、社會、經(jīng)濟及宗教發(fā)展的完整畫卷。

    山西平遙被稱為“保存最為完好的四大古城”之一，也是中國僅有的以整座古城申報世界文化遺產(chǎn)獲得成功的兩座古城市之一。

    2009年，平遙古城被世界紀錄協(xié)會評為中國現(xiàn)存最完整的古代縣城。2015年7月13日，平遙古城成為國家5A級旅游景點。

    Pingyao is located in Pingyao County, Shanxi Province. It was built in the Western Zhou Dynasty XuanWang Period (827 BC - 782 BC). Pingyao is an outstanding example of the Chinese cities in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the development of Chinese history, Pingyao shows an unusually complete picture of the Han cultural, social, economic and religious development.

     Pingyao is caled as one of “the four best preserved ancient city” and the “World Cultural Heritage”.

     In 2009, Pingyao was honoured as the most complete ancient county among extant Chinese counties, and became the “National 5A Tourist Attractions”on July 13, 2015.
